The Baltic Sea holds potential
All newsThe Baltic Sea holds oil and gas – but let’s not get carried away
Near Świnoujście, the discovery of deposits estimated at approximately 100 million barrels of oil equivalent has been confirmed. This discovery is significant on a Polish scale – it could strengthen energy security, bring new investments in offshore infrastructure, and create jobs.
However, from a global perspective, the scale is much more modest:
Saudi Arabia exports approximately 7 million barrels of oil… per day.
Our new deposits represent less than two weeks’ worth of exports for such a giant.
Poland consumes approximately 180 million tons of oil annually – so the entire discovery meets less than our annual demand.
And that’s just the beginning of the challenges. Extraction in the difficult conditions of the Baltic Sea requires specialized technology and experience, which are possessed by a limited number of companies worldwide.
Nevertheless, it is an important signal. It shows that the potential of our sea does not end with wind farms. Each new project of this type is an impetus for the development of modern technologies, logistics, and service – areas in which AJAKS S.A. has experience and is eager to leverage it in future projects.
Small on a global scale, large on a national scale – the Baltic Sea still has the power to surprise
